Pots of appeal with seafood on the go

If you love seafood The Potted Fish Company's products are more than likely to float your boat. Presented in stylish and easy-to-use pots (obviously) the food leaves a great taste in the mouth as they are both bursting with flavour and the ingredients are responsibly sourced - meaning you do not have to feel guilty about the environmental impact of your dinner.

Founded by Jonathan Bailey two years ago, at the age of just 22, the company has released a range of products including Old English Potted Crab and Potted Chili Crab, along with Potted Smoke Mackeral with Horseradish and Crab Cakes with Ginger and Corriander (pictured above). Crab, in particular, is notoriously fiddly to extract from its shell. The pots cut-out this hassle, reducing time in the kitchen without compromising on taste.

An exciting meal can be whipped up in less than 20 minutes by combining the Old English Potted Crab with spring onions, chili flakes, a sprinkle of parmesan cheese, some fresh coriander and linguine. Putting the recipe to the test I found the edge to the dish lies in the chilis, although a sprinkle too much of any of the ingredients can overpower the subtle shellfish. Having cooked with fresh and dressed crab previously, I found the pots considerably less fiddly and they cut out all scooping and cracking time, making cooking with the ingredient a lot less daunting.

Though simple in design the meal packs a punch and the fact they donate 10% of their profits to charity, some of which is being used to set up a business school, is an added bonus.

The mackeral can be used simply with a jacket potato or even toast for a quick meal or can be used in a mouth-watering fish pie.

The Potted Fish Company can be found in supermarkets and independent stores across the UK and in Europe. Visit www.pottedfish.co.uk for information, prices and recipes.
