Year 10 pupils at Charters School were given the opportunity to create the opening pages of a local or national newspaper or a national TV broadcast on Monday last week, with some youngsters taking on the News. The pupils, who took part in small groups, were given regular newsflashes throughout the day, with guest visitors appearing during the challenge to be interviewed by the budding journalists.
Year 10 pupil Charlie Sherritt said: “Handling the news was great, we made a huge effort whilst learning lots of news skills, and best of all was the teamwork. I really enjoyed the day.”
Heather Bradbury, an English teacher at the school said: “As usual, the students were a credit to the school, working extremely hard to produce some authentic and accomplished newspapers. Guests remarked on the fantastic teamwork.”
