FAMILIES in Bracknell Forest who are struggling to cope with a range of problems will get more support, thanks to a local housing association.

Home-Start Bracknell Forest has received £5,000 from Thames Valley Housing’s community chest fund to train new volunteers as befrienders to support families.

Some of the long term challenges facing the families Home-start support include on going illness, isolation, and struggling to cope having several pre-school children.

Other issues include post-natal depression, bereavement, a partner leaving, or sudden unemployment.

Tessa Dove, scheme organiser at Home-Start Bracknell Forest said, “We are really grateful to TVH for this money as we’ll be able to train up to 12 new volunteers to join our existing 25.

“Our volunteers provide practical and emotional support such as helping families get out, signposting to other services or just listening. We train our volunteers to use a wide range of skills.”
