A BUDDING young writer from Ascot has scooped a top award with a piece of descriptive writing.

LVS Ascot Junior School pupil Jamie Kedwards, 10, beat off competition from more than 5,000 other entrants to win the National Literacy Trust’s (NLT) Descriptosaurus Writing Challenge.

The challenge required pupils, aged seven-14 across the country, to explore and experiment with descriptive language in relation to the setting and characters of their submitted pieces.

For his prize, Jamie won £50 worth of book vouchers and a Samsung Galaxy tablet for himself.

He also won prizes for the school, including £250 worth of books, membership to the NLT’s network and a visit from creative writing expert Alison Wilcox.

The youngster’s entry will feature in a gallery on the NTL’s website and he also received a personal letter of congratulations and feedback from Mrs Wilcox.

Nick Funnell, headteacher of the school, said: “We are very proud of Jamie and his fantastic achievement.”
