THE Look In Community Cafe in Bracknell will close on Thursday - with no new home lined up.

The popular over 50s cafe has to move out of its Broadway base because of the regeneration of the town centre but a planned move to Charles Square has been abandoned. This was because Bracknell Regeneration Partnership would only grant them a year-long lease, as Charles Square will also be redeveloped in due course..

Director Terry Pearce said this did not represent good value for money because it would have cost up to £40,000 to refurbish the new premises.

He said: "I feel angry. We have had to tell people and staff it will be closing."

Mr Pearce said he had not given up hope of finding an alternative venue for the cafe.

He said: "I was involved right from the beginning when the council decided they didn't want to run it. I feel very committed to the cause.

"We are looking at one or two other places."

Leaflets informing customers of the news have been put in the cafe today (Thursday) - leaving customers devastated.

Are you a customer of the cafe? Will you be sad to see it close?

I have said the same on the BS site and my opinion hasn't changed since reading the story here.

http://tinyurl.com/ploh58s this was printed on 22nd Feb 2013 and it does state “Volunteers have found new premises on the upper level of Charles Square, which they hope to take on a 12-month lease from Bracknell Regeneration Partnership.” Back then it was only a 12 month lease so why is it now a surprise?

I don’t want to sound negative in any way but every cloud has a silver lining as they say. I have said from the start that BRP or whoever had the stupid idea of putting this desperately needed cafe in such a ridiculous place needed their heads testing. There was no way the elderly could have got up that slope with ease or used the escalators and as the lifts have metal plate in front of them, I doubt they would have been fixed. I just hope no money has been lost on this project as it was doomed from the start and now let’s hope a more suitable place can be found. It appeared to be rather a rash decision to think it was good money sense to splash out £50,000 on refurbishing the place with only a year’s lease but nobody appeared to see anything wrong in this idea. Fingers crossed that somewhere will eventually be found even if it’s on the new Garth site or the Legion building. 2 birds with one stone perhaps? Cafe in one section and the boxing club in another? Good luck though, I think you will need it with the lack of any concern from the people who could have helped.
