A WOMAN had to be cut from her car when it careered across a road between Reading and Wokingham, hitting a sign and a tree.

Firefighters from Whitley Wood and Wokingham Road stations rushed to the A327 from Arborfield towards Finchampstead at about 6.20am today (Saturday) to find the Vauxhall Corsa on its side.

The driver, believed to be in her early 20s, was trapped upside-down in the smashed car, but the crews managed to stabilise the vehicle and get her out within 28 minutes by cutting the roof off.

Firefighter Stuart Guntenzenbach, of Whitley Wood station, said it looked as though the woman had escaped with just a graze on her leg, however she was taken to the Royal Berkshire Hospital as a precaution.

He added: "She was very lucky, it could have been much worse."

The road was closed for just under an hour and police and paramedics were also in attendance.

It is unknown how the crash happened but Firefighter Guntenzenbach said it seemed like the car had "just lost control".

The crew from Whitley Wood was also called to a small flooding of a house in Burghfield this morning, but only spent a few minutes isolating the electrics and clearing out the excess water.
