Work will begin on the eastbound carriageway on Thursday and lanes will be closed from 10pm-6am for 15 nights while resurfacing will take place on the westbound carriageway for 12 nights starting on Wednesday next week.
The work is part of the Highways Agency’s summer infrastructure improvements scheme and follows road repairs between junctions 10-12 which are due to be completed in July. A five-month programme of drainage improvements will then begin with hard shoulder and lane closures due to be released nearer the time.
Highways Agency project sponsor Guy Watts stressed that disruption will be kept to a minimum and that diversions will be put in place when a major section of road is closed.
He added: “We are continuing to carry out important maintenance to the road surface and drainage on the M4, moving from the completed sections between junctions 10 and 12 and on to sections between junctions 10 and 8/9.
“The resurfacing here will provide drivers with a smoother ride with reduced noise to nearby properties.”
Motorists are advised to keep within the temporary speed limits, switch to the correct lane in plenty of time, keep their eyes on the road not the road works and stay alert for vehicles entering and leaving the site when driving through the roadworks.
