Bracknell Forest Council’s proposals will allow a maximum of five annual parking permits per household in 45 streets around the town centre and have been backed by residents.
Two of these permits will be free, and a third would cost £20 annually, a fourth £40 and a permit for a fifth car would mean households would have to pay £70.
A total of 2,250 properties were consulted, with only 30 objections made – including four from residents who do not live in the streets where the permit scheme could be introduced.
The scheme is due to be given the go-ahead by the council’s executive a meeting on July 22.
The survey followed an informal consultation last July which asked residents for their thoughts on the proposals.
In that survey, 81% of the respondents felt that having a permit scheme in their road would be beneficial, in the context of a town centre being regenerated – meaning more people will be coming to Bracknell and looking for somewhere to park.
Cllr Chris Turrell, executive member for transport and planning, said residents have backed the scheme.
He said: “The responses from residents were largely positive.
“There have been one or two things we have heard but you can’t please all the people all the time.
“However people did ask for this and this will give people a chance to get used to it before the regeneration building starts.
“This should help us achieve the target which is that local residents have somewhere to park.”
In the residents’ survey, no objections were made by people living in the West and Grange Road parts of Garth and Priestwood, while eight people living near Daventry Court raised concerns.
In light of comments raised, the council is due to amend its original proposals.
Members of the council’s environment, culture and communities overview scrutiny panel were due to vote last night (Tuesday) to scrap plans for a ‘no waiting’ (no parking) restriction in Daventry Court on Mondays-Saturdays from 8am to 6pm, and were also due to agree to abandon a proposal to get rid of double yellow lines in Old Bracknell Lane East.
