A POPULAR butcher will open an annual fair this weekend after decades serving his village.

Peter Jennings will be on hand to welcome visitors to the Hurst Show and Country Fair on Saturday, having run P&D Jennings Butchers in Ward Cross for more than 30 years.

The 82-year-old, whose son David has now taken over the business, has been working flat out with staff to produce 1,300 burgers and 900 sausages for the two-day show.

New features at the annual event, held off Orchard Road, Hurst, include a classic car display and dog show.

There will also be tug of war competitions, ferret racing, farm animals, owls, Morris dancing, swing boats and lots of games including penalty shoot-outs.

The show is open from 10am-5pm on Saturday and Sunday in School Road, Hurst.

Tickets are £3 for adults and £1 for teenagers, while children and OAPs get in for free.
