In a statement this afternoon, Bracknell Forest Council said: "National Grid has announced that gas works on the Twin Bridges junction will require a number of unexpected lane closures.
"A major high pressure gas main that supplies Bracknell needs to be moved and replaced as part of a series of ongoing improvements at the junction.
"Originally, National Grid assured the council that the work would only require off peak road works but unexpected engineering difficulties have led to longer closures being needed.
"The gas works will take place on the exit onto Easthampstead Road but strict safety regulations mean that the newly created lanes on the southern section of the roundabout will need to be temporarily closed.
"In order to keep the period of disruption as short as possible, Bracknell Forest Council has worked with National Grid’s contractors to plan the works to start earlier in the morning and work later into the evenings."
The works will run from Saturday, May 24, until Friday, June 6, with closures in place for 24 hours a day.
