A MAN has been jailed for murdering his gay lover, who had been planning a new life with his own sister-in-law. Ivan Svatkovskij, who stabbed Aleksandrs Vasiljevs to death at their home in Great Hollands, was found guilty of murder by a jury at Reading Crown Court today (Friday).

Svatkovskij - who had worked with his lover at Waitrose distribution centre in Bracknell - will serve a minimum of 15 years in prison for his crime.

The prosecution alleged that the Lithuanian-born 31-year-old had stabbed Mr Vasiljevs in jealousy. The court had heard that the victim had started a relationship with the wife of his half-brother and had been planning to bring her and her children over to the UK.

Svatkovskij had denied murder, claiming Mr Vasiljevs committed suicide, but this was rejected by a jury of six men and six women, which unanimously found him guilty of the charge.

Mr Vasiljevs was fatally stabbed once in the heart on September 20 last year at the couple's home in Appledore, Great Hollands.
