ALMOST 100 Rotarians, dignitaries and guests marked 50 years of the Rotary Club of Bracknell with a special dinner.

Hundreds of thousands of pounds has been raised for charities by dedicated members of the club since its formation and its achievements were toasted on Tuesday last week at the Coppid Beech Hotel, in Binfield.

The Three Counties Cycle Ride is the club's flagship charity event, having raised more than £400,000 in its 29 years. This year's event was held on Sunday, June 10, and more than 500 cyclists took part.

The late Bert Melhuish, who founded the Bracknell News, sister paper of the Midweek, was one of the original members of the club.

Ron Earl, president of the Rotary Club of Bracknell, said: "It is quite a landmark 50 years."

There are 21 Rotarians in the Bracknell club, but new members are welcome to join.
